Canon 35mm f1.4 vs Canon 24 f1.4 Mii Comparison

Canon 24mm f1.4 mark vs canon 35mm f1.4

canon lens
canon lens

Not a lot of comparisons between these two lens. I figure I'll add my 2 cents. I'm actually just trying to figure for myself if it's worth it to keep both around.

Let's start with pricing:
24mm - $1699 vs
35mm - $1599

Distortion:
24mm - surprisingly very little distortion. Canon has done well to keep this wide angle lens under control in this department. Notice in the photo below I was about 2 feet away from the subject and there was barely any distortion.

35mm - I love the look of the 35mm. You'll read in many different places that a portrait kens should be long like an 85mm or 135 mm to keep the subject from looking distorted and makes their features smaller. But honestly I like the slight distortion from the 35mmm. The subject appears slightly "bigger" towards the center. and I personally love that look. (Just don't focus on the nose!)

In terms of price and image quality it's hard to make an argument to keep both lens. The difference in terms of how wide you can go is literally only one normal step forwards or backwards to get the same image. To save yourself from taking one normal step back worth $1699?

Probably not.

Stacy and Mark's Lovers in the Mirror

Revisiting Stacy and Mark's wedding shot in May.

Just shows how long it takes to get an album done but I finally got to this photo and realized its a beautiful image of two lovers so into each other, they don't seem to notice anything else happening around them.

Photoshop CS5 Crashing? Problem Solved

Adobe recently released its latest CS5 productivity suite for the Mac, and a few people have been experiencing a problem where applications (particularly Photoshop) seem to be crashing when they are quit. The program will otherwise run just fine.

Usually this type of problem happens when a resource the program needs is not properly available to the program. The program can read and load all the settings it needs when starting up, or use default settings if settings files are not readable, but when quitting if it cannot save these settings then it may hang or crash.

The solution to this problem is to ensure that the current user has full read and write access to the resources that Adobe applications use. One way to do this is to get information on any Adobe-related items in the following folders, and ensure your user account has both read and write access to them. Click the small plus sign (after authenticating by clicking the lock) and add your account to the list of users and groups, and then give your account both read and write permissions.

User Library items:

/username/Library/Preferences/
/username/Library/Application Support/
/username/Library/Adobe/

Global Library items:

/Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/
/Macintosh HD/Library/Adobe/

Another method for doing this which may be more thorough (especially for people who upgraded from Adobe CS4) is to uninstall the Adobe CS5 suite, preparing the system for it, and then reinstalling the new version.

Adobe provides an uninstaller that is located in /Applications/Utilities/Adobe Installers/ so run it and follow the onscreen instructions. Then restart your system. After this is done, run Adobe's CS5 cleaner tool, which helps resolve problems that may affect the CS5 installation. The tool is available at the Adobe Web site.

After the tool has been run, perform general maintenance on your system by booting into Safe Mode and running a permissions fix with Disk Utility. Then optionally run the cleanup and cache-clearing routines with a maintenance utility like OnyX, and reboot. After this is done, run the installer for Adobe CS5 again and you should be up and running without the crashes.

This one of my favorite shots from the wedding, LuAnn is a classy lady and it shows in this photo. I love the way the lines of the lamp mimic her shoulders and neck. The look of the eyes gives her an appearance of deep thought.
