Vi + Minh Engagement Photos

The Spring is here and the heat is rising, tomorrow's temperature forecast is 67 degrees. Ooh yes! Today was more of a warm up day, since the Sun was out but is was pretty darn chilly.

Just like how I enjoy to eat at new restaurants, I'm also a fan of going to new places to shoot, so every time I drive through an area I'm always on a look out for an area that has some interest lines, color, or architecture. In Downtown Renton, near Liberty Park there's an area with a bridges near the river that I've eyeballing for months now.

So naturally when it came time for Vi and Minh to do a quick engagement session that was the place we decided to go to.

There are these great long white hand rails at the edge of the river and private and colorful areas that are fantastic for photos.

I'd avoid the place at night there. There are a few sketchy characters that call that place a hang out spot.

Skagit County Tulip Festival 2011

April 16th, 2011
Skagit County - Rozengaarde Gardens
Tulip Festival

For as long as I've lived in Washington, I've never been to the Famous Tulip Festival. Now I'm kinda sorry that I haven't gone much sooner. Talk about a mecca for photographers and festival food lovers.

Oh look! That's me and Mai, hamming it up. Photo Taken by Bryan Luong 12yrs old.

Pioneer Square Seattle, WA. What more can I say about this part of downtown?

Wonderful eateries. You can find a perfectly greasy heart burning hot dog or gyro in about every corner. Don't forget to lather on the cream cheese, sauerkraut, and jalapenos to give it that extra umphh.

Party Spot: Wait until about 10pm when the night life begins and bar hop to good ole JM cafe, or cut a rug at Trinity Nightclub. Maybe watch a drunken fight or two by 2am.

Team Spirit: Seattlelites love their Sounders and adore their Mariners regardless of how bad they maybe, so forget about finding parking when there's a game that day. Naturally we scheduled a shoot minutes before a Sounders game. We love a challenge.

On top of everything else Pioneer Square is also a fantastic place to take some awesome photos.

I love this area for photos, there's so much that it has to offer. The thick ivy covering the mainly brick buildings, along with grungy alleys make for an eclectic variety of backdrops.

Guess who's in this shot? Always a fan of quirky and different. I had to clean this mirror on a parked van before I used it. The driver can thank me later. =)

Nathaniel + Serena - UW Cherry Blossoms in full bloom

April 3rd, 2010

Nathanial + Serena Portraits
Assistant: Mai
UW Seattle, WA

Being a UW husky Alum, I knew that the UW quad has one of the most amazing Cherry Blossom blooms in the Spring time. So when I heard that Serena and Nathanial were interested in doing their portraits there, I was more than excited.

However, being that it had been raining all week and Sunday was one of the only days where the rain stayed away. Everyone in King County seemed to have the same idea. The area was packed with amateur and professional photographers alike. Family photos to the left, a wedding shoot in front of us, engagement sessions to the right, every single tree had multiple people posing in front of it.

I love a challenge, so instead of trying to lose the crowd I wanted to incorporate them. The challenge of course is to make the couple stand out from the crowd so I had them do multiple jumps to make it appear as if they were floating. I like the idea of floating to where I need to go, while everyone else around me only has the ability to walk.

Naturally this reminded me of some floating photos I've seen by a Japanese photographer named Natsumi Hayashi. More of her work HERE

This is my rendition of it. I love the idea that in a sea of people, no one seems to care that something apparently strange is happening and they mind their own business.

However packed it was, with some creative angles I was able to crop out most of the crowds and we took some great photos.

More reasons I love photo Chop

I can definitely say that with digital photography it makes it so that anyone with the ability, equipment, and of course photoshop can create a great photo.

The reason clients hire you is to make them look as beautiful as possible. So understanding some of the beauty techniques of skin healing, contrast, and exposure cam really make a good photo, incredible.

Below:
1. Exposure - brightness
2. Contrast Bump to bring out the couch
3. Brightness increase to clean up the color and whiteness of the dress
4. Liquify tool to straighten the nose
5. Denoised
6. Curves brightness to bring out the eyes
7. High pass sharpening

and Voila final Photo. Total time on 1 image 20 minutes. 2000 more to go. =)
