Playing with Textures

This is Crystal, 15 minutes before she walked down the aisle.

The photo was taken in the Bride's room of the the beautiful St Joseph Basilica in San Jose, CA. The lighting in the cramped room consisted of just a couple of unflattering canister tungsten lights. I had her pose with her nose directly at one of the lights and made use of the only mirror on the wall to add an interesting reflection.

In photoshop I corrected the white balance, played around with the curves and added a dried mud texture to create the dramatic effect. Pretty simple really but when combined with resourcefulness for available light, you can make a pretty awesome end product.

  1. The mud finish makes the picture look so much more interesting, Binh.
