I love to shoot portraits. I find people much more interesting than inanimate objects or landscape photography. Not to take away from the beauty of a setting sun, which can look awesome, but it's much more awesome as a backdrop for a portrait. =)

Oanh is one of those folks who has a genuine smile and an open mind for anything. It's natural for most pregnant moms to feel fat or insecure about the additional pounds during their pregnancy. And even worse to have to document this in high resolution photo format, but my thoughts are this, the extra weight in most cases is temporary, and also the baby bump.

So why not show off that beautiful baby capsule while it lasts? Jokingly, I was pushing her to get naked, not in the dirty way you maybe thinking of especially since my fiance and her best friend were assisting that day, but in a way that would do the beautiful pregnant body justice.

After hearing "You Dirty" in Vietnamese about 35 times, I think that open minded girl finally came out and she understood that in life there are certain sacrifices you have to make. Like getting naked to take the artsy fartsy photo. I think she understood that at that moment here's her opportunity to take advantage of making some memories out of a very temporary thing, like being pregnant. I think its this type of sacrifice that will make her a great mom.

So was I able to get the artsy naked photos?

NO, but she did compromise a little...

Alena+Rob Wedding - Dec. 11th, 2010

This had to be one of the funnest Weddings to witness and capture. The Russian culture is so enthused, friendly, and generous!

The setting was a Victorian Banquet Hall called Hollywood Schoolhouse in Woodinville, WA. Next to the famed Chateau St. Michelle and the Red Hook Brewery.

The building is a historical landmark built in 1912 originally purposed as a school. It's a 2 story building filled with Victorian furniture, which provided a beautiful backdrop for some very classy photos.

Unfortunately for me, as I climbed down after hanging the bride's wedding dress on a window frame, a very unclassy thing happened. I heard a loud riiiip! Immediately I thought I had damaged the beautiful furniture. But when I looked down, I noticed that I had a 3 inch split in my "crouchal" region! This was unfortunate, because 1. I did not have a spare pair of pants, 2. it was also the second time I had done this at a wedding, and 3. because we still had 6 hrs to go!

Knowing I had on clean underwear, kept me going!! However every time I crouched down for a lower angle shot. It became quite breezy.

The traditional Russian Wedding is fantastic. There's a multitude of games all intended to test the grooms desire to marry his future bride. From coughing up the cold hard cash, to knowing her hand and feet size compared to other women at the wedding, Rob did relatively well! A very good sign that he knows his lovely Bride, Alena, very very well.

I had a wonderful time at the wedding. The people were great, the food was amazing, and I had the fabulous opportunity to attend my 1st Russian wedding. Hopefully not the last.

Lapraja Portraits - Making a difference with Make-A-Wish

As a volunteer photographer for Make A Wish. I find it rewarding to give back in my favorite way, through photos and imagery. Lapraja's wish is to be treated like an actress for the day. Part of the experience was to get the portraits and photoshoot by a professional photographer for the day.

It was my pleasure to work with Lapraja and her family and a big thanks to Erika and Andy (Make A Wish Volunteers) for making this happen.
